Privacy policy
Last updated: 2 November 2026
Toilet Star is an Alexa skill and website that helps parents encourage toilet training by awarding stars for potty visits. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. It is written for the parent or guardian who enables the skill and manages the account.
Who we are
The data controller is [Company name], [address]. You can contact us about privacy at [privacy contact email].
Who the service is for
Toilet Star is designed for parents and guardians. Children may take part in speaking to Alexa only with a parent present, and only the parent provides any information about a child. By using Toilet Star you confirm that you are an adult responsible for the child whose progress is recorded.
What we collect
- Alexa skill user identifier. Amazon gives each Alexa account a unique identifier that is specific to this skill. We use it to remember your household between sessions.
- Amazon account details, if you link your account. When you link Toilet Star in the Alexa app or sign in on this website using Login with Amazon, Amazon shares your Amazon user ID, your name and your email address with us. We use these to recognise you and to show your dashboard.
- Child nicknames. A first name or nickname that you, the parent, choose to give Alexa so that stars go to the right child. You can use any name you like, and you can change or remove it from the dashboard.
- Star events. The kind of event (a wee, a poo, a try, or a dry day), how many stars it earned, and when it was recorded.
- Device locale. The language setting of the Alexa device, so that we reply in the right language.
We do not receive or store voice recordings. Amazon processes speech and sends us only the text meaning of the request. We do not collect addresses, dates of birth, photographs, payment details or any other information about children.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To provide the service – recording stars, replying through Alexa and showing your dashboard. Lawful basis: performance of a contract with you (our terms of use).
- To keep the service secure and working – for example, verifying that requests really come from Amazon and fixing faults. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests in running a reliable, secure service.
- To respond when you contact us. Lawful basis: our legitimate interests in supporting our users.
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling or automated decision-making.
Advertising and selling data
Toilet Star contains no advertising. We never sell, rent or trade personal information.
Who we share it with
- Amazon operates Alexa and Login with Amazon. Amazon's own privacy notice governs how it handles your Alexa requests and your Amazon account.
- Our hosting provider, [hosting provider name], stores our database and runs the website on our behalf under a data processing agreement.
We do not share information with anyone else unless the law requires it. Where a provider stores data outside the United Kingdom, we rely on the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or an adequacy decision to protect it.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account exists. If you delete your account, or ask us to, we delete it within 30 days. Backups that contain deleted data are overwritten within a further 30 days.
Deleting your data
Sign in to your dashboard and choose Delete my account and data. This removes your account, every child nickname and every star event. You can also email [privacy contact email] and we will do it for you. Disabling the skill in the Alexa app stops new data being recorded but does not delete what is already stored.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you and your child;
- have inaccurate information corrected;
- have your information erased;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- receive a copy of it in a portable format.
To exercise any of these rights, email [privacy contact email]. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or by calling 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, tell you through the skill or by email.
